Machines used for forming round pieces (cylinders, cones, etc.). Material is removed forming chips to bring the piece to the desired size. Distinguishable in:
– Parallel: the piece rotates, while the tools runs parallel wise to the axis of the piece.
– CNC: these are the evolution of parallel lathes; they exploit electronics and a computer to work in an automatic mode following a preset program.
– Vertical: ideal for particulars with great dimensions and weight. In this type the piece placed on the bed rotates. The tool moves on vertical or transversal guides.
